Android applications are developed using Java programming language and with help of Android Software Development Kit. There are also other development kits like Android NDK or native tools for extensions or apps in C/C++. For beginner and trainee developers, there is also a visual setting known as Google App Inventor. It is basically used in multiple phone web-based application frameworks. There are two ways through which the end-users can download Android apps in their devices. The first One is Play Store, the official Google's Android store and other is Amazon App store. Apart from these two popular ways, end-users are free to download and install the APK files of apps from any third party website. Other tools include Android Open Accessory Development Kit, Native development kit, HyperNext Android Creator, App Inventor for Android, The Simple project, Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL), and Basic4android.

While preferring Google Play Store, users can surf and download apps which are created and submitted by Android developers around the world. Many apps come pre-installed in Android powered smartphones and tablets and ...
... can only be updated but cannot be uninstalled. The Play Store also shows applications which have been listed as top apps. Most of apps available on the stores are free but some of them are paid and can only be downloaded after paying an amount.

In September last year, Play Store had more than 650,000 apps and the figure of applications downloaded reached 25 billion. Data of various research and analysis firms confirmed that there were more than 400 million devices in which Android OS was installed.

With the launch of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 version, Google added the multitasking feature to Android apps. So if users press the multitasking button or the home button of their Android devices, a task manager will show the list of recently opened applications. Here users can switch from one to another app.

Android application Development is the process through which apps are created for Android OS. A survey conducted in June 2011 revealed that more than 67% of phone developers have utilized Android OS to launch apps. It is a user-friendly platform for mobile developers. According to data, about 105 million Android powered smartphones were sold in second quarter 2012. It represented that Android had more than 68% share in global smartphone market.

But Android application development is the path of challenges which are associated with Java standards. There is no set standard of Java to be used in the development process. To resolve this issue, many tools have been built which help developers in Android conversion activities.
