Tips For Screenwriting For Beginners

Presenting a clean and professional looking screenplay is the only true way your script will ever have a realistic chance at becoming a featured length film.
1. Beginners Screenwriting Tip
Read professional screenplays. If you are a beginner and you want to one day hear your words coming out of the mouth of Scarlett Johansson or some other famous actor, you are going to need to know what a screenplay looks like on the page. The best way to learn that is to read scripts.
The urge to write is a very powerful one especially when you believe you are sitting on the next summer blockbuster, but just slow down for a minute you are going to want to get this right.
If you must, jot down some notes, write an outline, but hold off on writing the script. In most cases, you are only going to get one shot at this why not make every effort to get it right.
I have heard stories about screenplays beginning reject strictly based on what they looked like on the page; do not let that happen to you. Remember half the battle is getting someone to read your script, but if it does not look right, it will be over looked.

... 2. Screenplay Tip for Beginner
Watch films, lots of them if you have the time. Pick the movie you like then go online and get the script if it's available then sit back and watch and learn.
It's a great way to learn. You will also be able to see how scenes are shot. In essence, you will see the script come to life. Reading produced scripts should not be underestimated. It is a great learning tool, and the great thing about it is that there are tons of places online to get screenplays old and new free. Study them and learn how they flow it can only help.
Side note: There are many books and seminars that are available on this topic but my advice would be to take the time to get familiar with the format before spending time and money, it is free.
3. Script Tip for Beginner
Now write the darn thing. Once you think you have a basic understanding of how a screenplay should look, sit down and crank out your first draft. Writing like is like anything else, if you want to be good at it, you have to work at it.
