Choosing The Right Epoxy Floor Paint
In any building, the floor needs to look good as well. And apart from its appearance, it also has to be safe for everybody. Floors are normally made of concrete, the most widely used material in construction since the olden days. But concrete by itself looks drab with its grey color.
Enhancing the look of concrete floors is easy these days what with various floor paints and coating available in the market. It all depends on how the floor will be used and the type of interior design of the interior space. Investing in time and money are essential in upgrading floors that will last for many generations. If possible, top quality materials should be used to make the floor serve its best purpose.
The benefits
Epoxy floor paint is a highly recommended material. In fact because of its popularity, it is also now being used in many homes notably in the garage and basement. This material is widely used in the United States and Europe because of its unique look on the floor as well as low maintenance, durability and strong adhesion properties.

There are many advantages to using epoxy for your floor. First off, it adheres strongly to concrete and therefore can last for a long time. It is also resistant to rust, water, heat, salt and acid. Additionally, it is a non-toxic material when dry and poses no health hazard. And since it does not gather dust and requires little maintenance, you can save a lot of money in the long run.
The cost effectiveness of this material is a major benefit especially for homeowners. In the home, painting your floor with epoxy can be a project you can do on your own with less cost.
Epoxy types
Epoxy floor paint is made up of resins and curing agents. It comes in three types. These are the 100 percent solids, the solvent-based and the water-based.
The strongest but most toxic is the 100 percent solid epoxy. This is also the one that costs more than the two others and since it is toxic, only professionals should do the application of this type on floors.
The solvent-based epoxy contains 40 to 60 percent solids and is usually used for industrial applications. You can buy this from stores that sell industrial supplies. This is also toxic hence, users should take precautionary measures when using this type such as ensure proper ventilation in the area and the use of rubber gloves, boots and a respirator if possible.
The water-based epoxy is the least costly of the three and is ideal for use in homes. Since it contains water with no hazardous fumes, it is safe to use by homeowners and non-professionals.
Epoxy paints also come in different colors to match the interior and exterior design of any structure. It may also be to your convenience if you get an epoxy kit containing a compatible sealer, other needed materials and instructions.
