Taking care of our teeth is necessary because we not only use them to eat our food but we also need good teeth for aesthetic purposes. Indeed wonderful teeth allow us to smile often and boost our confidence. Everyone should observe dental hygienic services so as to keep our teeth healthy and strong. Anytime we eat or speak, we risk the accumulation of bacteria in our mouth. These bacteria cause the formation of plaque and this can damage our teeth. There are cases where the periodontist may advise his patient to consider a crown lengthening procedure.

Patients who consider this procedure are known to have a gummy smile where the teeth have too much gum tissue. Here, the dentist will remove the excess gum tissue to allow the exposure of the teeth thus allowing the patient to have the perfect smile. Depending on a patient’s gums, the procedure can be done on one tooth to the entire gum line. Precision periodontics can advise the patient to consider this procedure for cosmetic purposes. This is majorly when the teeth are broken or decayed.

One of the most common dental practices is brushing and flossing. When ...
... this is done regularly, the plaque is removed from the teeth. Irregular brushing of teeth leads to increased plaque which leads to inflammation of gums, a disease that is commonly known as gingivitis. A dentist will offer dental hygienic services to such a patient using special dental equipment to remove the plaque and heal the gums. After this, the patient is required to observe daily dental hygienic services including regular visits to the dentist for cleaning to remove all the plaque.

A common deep cleaning service involves scaling. Scaling can be administered with root planning. Here, all the plaque and tartar is removed in a period of four to six weeks. These processes are nonsurgical. This means that the patient will have to be sedated. A sedation dentist administers sedation to the patient. Sedation methods may include oral methods, an injection or an inhalant so that the patient does not suffer any pain. In oral sedation, the dentist will give pills to the patient. There are people who do not like swallowing pills. They can therefore choose to inhale the laughing gas or an injection.

When gingivitis is not treated, one runs the risk of having periodontitis. The inflammation of the gums proceeds to the teeth and forms spaces in between. Additionally, a periodontist will check the extent of the damage of the teeth and gums. Worse cases of periodontitis involve complete removal of teeth as they are broken and completely damaged. A periodontist will advise his patient to get dental implants. These implants act as natural teeth and are placed on the jaw bone to replace the broken and missing teeth. The best thing about dental implants is that they are permanent and therefore, the patient can use them as normal teeth. The implants take three months to heal during which time regular visits will be required to the dentist to avoid infection and ensure that the body especially the pockets of the teeth accept the dental implants.
