You may not realize this now. Perhaps you are so totally caught up with your present life as an independent, successful yuppie. Perhaps you have been away from home for so long that you do not care what happens to your family back home. Perhaps you are right beside your family, but you seem like you are barely there. Do you think this kind of behavior is the smarter way to treat your family? I don’t think so. Here are some of the reasons why.

It reared you to who you are right now

For a child who most likely lost his or her way, this is probably what you need to keep in mind right now. Your family made you into what you are right now. Whether it is a bad past or a good past, the thing is that you are here right now—thriving—because of your family. You practically owe everything to your family members, most especially your parents. I believe no one can go far or feel complete fulfillment without his or her family by his or her side.

It is your support group

This goes out to everybody—whether you are a child or the head of the family. You must already know that your family will do everything ...
... to support you. Okay. Let’s admit. There are a lot of twisted families out there who do not have any idea what family support is all about. However, given that you are reading this article, on your computer monitor, with a proper Internet connection, I believe it is safe to assume that you are inside a completely functional and normal family. You may not have a family attorney to take of your legal issues, but you have your family members who are always ready to help you out. Actually, even if you already have hired a family attorney to take care of your issues, your family will not just stand silent in the sidelines.

It accepts you no matter what

Of all people, your family knows who you really are. And it’s all right. It’s all right because no matter what bad things you might have done in your life, your family will still accept you. They know that real you. They know your struggles. They know your failures. Whatever person you might have become after whatever fights you have with life, your family is still there, ready to accept you with open arms.

It is the only place you can come home to

You might be taking the textbook definition of family—like your actual kin and blood. Believe me, I do too. However, there are people who unfortunately do not have anyone in their lives with that definition of a family. For me, family can also extend from its textbook definition. For me, one can also be family if one has accepted who you really are and still love you anyway. For me, it can be anyone who feels like home whenever you are with them. When I have those people around me, I believe that can be enough too.
