When you're writing free reprint articles, it is so easy to focus so much on the article that you forget the importance of the resource box. The article is important--you can't do article marketing without creating quality articles--but you won't see the best results if you don't craft your resource box properly. Article marketing is about more than just articles!
For those of you who have just started to submit articles, let me explain what a resource box is.
A resource box is basically an short paragraph that is "about the author". It is separate from the article, usually sitting below it. It is the one place in your article submission where you can freely talk about your business and website and where you can actually try to sway readers to click the link leading to your website.
Your resource box is extremely powerful due to a few factors:
1 - The link in your resource box will lead to your website. You can usually include up to two links.
2 - Most sites will allow you to use anchor text to form the links. This means that instead of seeing a written out website address, the reader will see a ...
... phrase in your resource box that is clickable. It will usually be blue and underlined, and upon clicking that hyperlinked phrase, the reader is taken to your website.
The phrase that you use as anchor text should be a keyword phrase that is associated with your website. You can find out which keyword phrases to use by doing keyword research. These are phrases that your potential customers are typing into Google when they search for sites, products or services such as yours.
If you are going to hyperlink a keyword phrases in your resource box (and it is recommended that you do), be sure to vary the phrases that you use so that you're not linking the same phrase for each submission. You should have a list of 5-10 keyword phrases that you use in your resource boxes, and you can alternate those for each article.
3 - And last but not least, your resource box is powerful because you can share information about yourself and your business and try to get readers to visit your website.
After reading a good article, many times the reader will naturally look at the resource box to find out more about the author. If your resource box is well-crafted, you just may convert a loyal reader or pique the interest of someone who may be interested in your business.
The resource box is pretty straightforward. Here is the information you need to include:
=> It's a good idea to include your name, especially if you would like to be known as an expert in your field. Articles are great for accomplishing that purpose--by writing helpful articles on a consistent basis it helps people to think of you as being a knowledgeable person in your niche. By including your name in the author bio, you ensure that when your article is republished your name is "attached" to the article.
=> Share some information about yourself. Why should the reader listen to you or take you seriously? What makes you an expert on this topic? By including this type of information, it helps build reader confidence in you.
=> Give the reader a reason to visit your website. The whole purpose behind article marketing is to increase the traffic to your website. The main way that article marketing accomplishes this is through getting your website a higher search engine ranking.
A secondary way of generating traffic to your website is by getting people who read your article to click the link in your author bio. Take some time to think of something that would lure a reader to your site. It could be a free newsletter, a free report, an e-book, a great blog, or some sort of coupon for your service.
The resource box is one tiny powerhouse of potential benefits for your website. It's small (usually 450 characters or so), but don't let that fool you into thinking that it doesn't matter. The author bio is about so much more than just a link--it is where you can "speak" directly to your readers and try to form a connection with them. It's where you can explain how your product or service can help the reader. It's where you can inspire a reader to visit your website.
If you want to make an immediate improvement in your article marketing success, spend 10 minutes working on your resource box.
