The 3 Secrets To Finding What To Write About
It's probably one of the most frequently asked questions that no one talks about when it comes to blogging: "How do I find stuff to write about?"
When you're just starting out, it can be a pretty daunting task finding what to write about. But you find that the more you do this and the more practice you get, the easier it gets. It gets so easy that you find there's too much stuff to write about. Now which problem would you rather have: not enough to write about, or too much to write about. The answer's obvious.
But how, specifically, do you do this? The answer's simple. Do you read a lot of business books, marketing books, personal development books? If you do, then there you go. I've just given you enough to write about for the rest of your life. The secret to creating unlimited content for your blog is to take what you learn from other people, and give your perspective on it. That's it. It's that simple.
You have to understand why people come to your blog in the first place. They come to get PERSPECTIVE. Specifically your perspective. When readers go to blogs, there's a 90% chance that they've actually already ...
... read about the stuff on the blog. The difference is the messenger. So don't get caught up in the limiting belief that you can't use other people's ideas to write your blog posts. Now, obviously you don't plagiarize. You don't just go out there copying word for word and taking it as your own. What you can do is reference them when you do use their material (and preferably ask them for permission if at all possible). Or you can take a general concept you read in a book or in a course and put it into your own words with your own perspective and how you specifically would apply it to your business. After all, not all the stuff you read is 100% original content. Where do you think they got it from? Chances are they read it somewhere else and repackaged it with their own spin on it. You see with the hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions, of books out there on different subjects, I think it's safe to say that what you write about or what anybody writes about for that manner, is 100% original content.
But I digress. Here are the 3 secrets to finding what to write about:
Listen to some old motivational tapes or cds you might have lying around. Take what they are saying and give your own perspective on it. Provide that added value that will get people excited about visiting your blog. Another great resource for content would be books. You probably have a whole bunch of books on marketing and business lying around. Open one of them up, look at a chapter or a topic in the book and expand on that and apply it to your readers.
Watch any movie and comment on it. We all know that in pop culture, anything related to celebrities or the entertainment industry is immediately interesting. You can use Hollywood to pique the interests of your readers by reviewing a movie and using the meaning or specific scenes of the movie and drawing the parallel between that and some business principle or personal growth principle.
Taking the daily experiences in YOUR LIFE and tying them into marketing, communicating, or personal growth. This not only provides your readers with great insights on these areas of business but it also allows your readers to get a sneak peek at your life. Readers love living vicariously through the people they look up to. They appreciate it because it lets them know that you are human and not this mystic, esoteric guru you've made yourself out to be. It humanizes you. And above all, it builds trust which is the most crucial part of building a following and getting people to admire you and buy your products or join your organization.
