There are four major phases in the process of producing a vinyl art sticker. The respective phases have several steps in them, but our focus here is on the major phases. What we will be trying to do, briefly, is explain what happens in each vinyl art stickers production phase. By the end of it all, you should have a pretty good idea of what goes into the production of the stickers in question. Just to put the whole matter into perspective, we may mention that the vinyl art stickers we are making reference to here are mainly used for decoration purposes. That is where, for instance, we see people opting to use the vinyl art stickers, instead of, say, the ordinary auto bumper decals. Actually, the difference between the vinyl art stickers meant for use on car bumpers and the ordinary auto bumper decals is not very huge. Many people use the terms interchangeably: such that a person going to shop for vinyl art stickers may be heard saying that he is going to buy auto bumper decals. Anyway, our focus here is on the vinyl art stickers, as we try to explore the major phases in the process through which they are produced.
Now ...
... the first phase in the process of producing a vinyl art sticker is the conceptualization phase. During this phase, the message or graphic to be carried by the sticker is figured out. This is a very important phase, because you can’t get into the actual design or production of a sticker, unless you first have a good concept of it. The conceptualization may involve sketching on a piece of paper, until the idea becomes crystal clear.
The second phase in the process of producing a vinyl art sticker is the design phase. During this phase, the concept is implemented on a computer, using an appropriate graphic design software application. The end result is a file containing the elements that are to constitute the sticker (which could be graphic elements, text elements or both).
The third phase in the process of producing a vinyl art sticker is the production phase. The main tool used in this phase is the vinyl cutting machine. This is essentially a special type of printer, which is able to transfer the elements produced in the second phase onto the sheet of vinyl in an orderly manner. It leaves a rather prominent outline of the letters or graphics on the vinyl sheet, such that they can be lifted off the vinyl sheet with ease (and perhaps with just a little help from a specially made knife).
The fourth phase in the process of producing a vinyl art sticker is the deployment phase. This is where the vinyl elements (graphics or text) are transferred to the surface where they were meant for use. This could be a wall, a car door, a car bumper or anything in between. The transfer has to be done carefully, to avoid messing up the graphics or text letters that make up the actual sticker. The vinyl sheet contains a certain type of glue which ensures that the sticker elements actually stick, once transferred to the surface where they need to be deployed.
