The Breast Augmentation Surgery
Breast augmentation surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures that are performed annually by women across the world. Women choose to undergo the breast augmentation surgery for a number of different reasons. The personal reasons rotate around the fact that their breasts are perceived to be under developed or they just want their breasts to be made fuller. Normally, after giving birth to a child, aging or weight loss, a woman’s breast shape and size may change. These factors often cause women to seek breast augmentation surgery. This surgery is performed by cosmetic plastic surgeons. Breast implants may improve a woman’s self esteem as well as give them a more proportional shape.
During the examinations, your plastic surgeon examines your breasts by considering factors such as the shape and size of your breasts, your skin quality as well as the placement of the nipples and the skin surrounding the nipple, known as the areolas. The examination will include a discussion of your medical history, which will include any information about your medical history, drug allergies, previous surgeries you have had ...
... as well as any medication that you are currently taking. Your doctor will also ask you if you a family history of breast cancer. It is very important that you provide this information. There is no evidence that breast augmentation surgery can increases breast cancer. However, breast implants makes it even more difficult to detect the presence of breast cancer. Women who are at a higher risk of contracting breast cancer should seriously consider this fact. In this regard, placing the breast implant right underneath the pectoral muscle can cause less interference with the mammographic examination, though other factors should still be considered with regards to the placement of the breast implant. Pregnancy can also alter the size of the breast in an unpredictable manner which could affect the long term effects of the breast augmentation surgery. Breast augmentation surgery is normally performed on an outpatient basis. After the surgery is completed, you will be moved to a recovery area where you will be closely monitored and the breasts will be covered with a surgical bra.
You should be up and about a day or two after the surgery. The breast augmentation surgery only lasts for a few hours. The dressing will be removed within a few days and also, you may be requested to wear a support bra. You may experience some discoloration and swelling in the initial stages but this will quickly disappear, mostly within a month’s time. It may take several days before you’re back to your normal activities after the breast augmentation surgery. However, physical activities should be avoided until after a few weeks from the surgery.
The purpose of breast augmentation surgery is to increase the breast size, especially for the small or underdeveloped breasts. This surgery can also enhance and restore your breasts size or volume if the decrease was as a result of breast feeding or even pregnancy. Breast implants can also be used for quite a number of other purposes such as for reconstructive purposes in breast cancer victims.
