Finding The Differences Between Mobile Applications And Mobile Websites
A mobile application is a software designed to run on small computing platforms such as Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Phone. Most applications do not have cross-platform compatibility and if they have, then they certainly run through a middle program such as Java application run through Virtual Machine.
Mobile applications are specific to perform operations by using the device-specific functions. The entire software stake is installed in the device itself. The actual mobile applications are native as they are installed in a device and capable of using all its native features & functions.
So what is mobile website? A mobile website is simply an online catalog of your business that allows your potential customer contacting you and quickly accessing information about your business. Let us come across some more differences between mobile applications and mobile websites.
Speed β mobile applications are faster as not all apps do need internet connectivity. Because mobile applications ...
... are installed in the device thus they are relatively faster. On the other hand, websites cannot run without internet connectivity. In case there is slow internet connectivity, a website may take several minutes in uploading in browser.
Discoverability β An app is discoverable on stores. It may also be discoverable even in search engine. However, it may not be discovered in local Google Search. Google too is quite supportive for mobile website. So with a mobile website, you have enough opportunities to show up your business in local search directories. A native application just not qualifies for all these requirements.
Update or Upgrade related issues β Updating a mobile app is a bit problematic as it requires the attention and effort of users to update it. But with mobile website, users need not to do anything. When website developers update a website, all the users accessing it will see changes automatically.
Multi-platform compatibility - When a computing operation is tried to comprehend through mobile app, the end product supports specific platform. It is difficult to design an app with multiple-platform compatibility. But this issue does not occur with mobile websites. A Mobile website supports all the browsers in mobile devices, while there is need of huge investment in designing and developing different versions of the same application for different mobile platforms.
The above mentioned pointers help you observe that there are differences in mobile apps and mobile websites. Mobile apps deliver best performance and can be made for almost all the computable tasks while it cannot happen with websites. A website can of course save huge investment but you cannot implement web technologies for complex computing operations. Itβs just impossible.
