Calcium is very important for the body. It helps in physiological functions of the body such as stimulating the nerves, contracting muscles, releasing hormones among others. Your diet is a major determinant in the level of calcium that will be found in your body. It is, therefore, important that you include foods that are likely to increase your calcium levels in your diet. Some of the best calcium sources include:

Dairy products – Many researchers have found large traces of calcium in milk. This has made milk calcium to be one of the most sought after sources of organic calcium. Due to the large quantity of nutrients, dairy products are some of the best calcium sources.

Green vegetables – These also contain organic calcium. They have low amounts of calcium meaning that the little that is consumed has a high chance of reaching the bones ...
... and being utilized properly. Some of the green vegetables that have calcium include kale, dandelion greens, broccoli, celery and amaranth leaves. Vegetables could be preferable if you are a vegetarian or if you do not take dairy products.

Fruits – These are other sources of calcium. The amount contained is also in little quantity meaning that what is consumed is likely to be absorbed into the body. Examples of fruits with calcium include grapefruits, mulberries, pomegranates and dates.

Nuts and selected seeds – Nuts are other products with organic calcium although in small amounts. They include almonds, pecans, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds among others.

Eggs – The eggshell has been found to contain significant amounts of calcium. The shell can be crushed finely and dissolved in some solvents to make it easier to eat. The shell contains significant amounts of calcium carbonate which helps to lower the acidity levels in the stomach as well as help in the digestive process.

Fish and other seafood – These contain both organic calcium and vitamin D.

It is important that you also take vitamin D since it is required to help in the absorption of calcium. There are also other plant based calcium sources which contain the mineral in small amounts. For instance, soy produces calcium milk. Others include tofu, Brussels sprouts, white beans among others. The animal based sources have higher amounts of calcium than the plants. However, there are many people who do not take animal products for various reasons. That is why you need calcium supplements to be sure of the quantity that you are taking.

When you supplement calcium, you protect your health by ensuring you only take the right amounts of calcium without suffering from the effects of taking too many fats from the animal sources. Calcium tablets are packed with only the calcium that is easy to absorb in the body and is beneficial to the growth of bones.

Most of the supplements are made from calcium carbonate. It is an alkaline salt that helps lower the acidity levels in the body. The supplements however require an acidic environment for them to be absorbed easily. It is found abundantly in the coral reefs and in addition to helping in the growth and strengthening of bones, it also helps reduce the risk of developing other conditions. Such include depression, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity. All the above examples form some of the best calcium sources.
