... to fly through Fly Dubai. The employer was surprised and confused. The prices of airlines like Fly Dubai are cheaper than the maid’s favored choice of Emirates of Sri Lankan Airlines. Her husband tell her that the maid has to go with the cheapest airline. Now the lady is really confused what to do.
Another employer said that she used to sometimes fly her houseboy by Emirates. She wasn’t aware that Emirates allowed more luggage than Srilankan airlines by 10 kilograms and thought that this could be the difference in air fares. She feels that domestic helpers should not be the ones to choose the airline. She added that the reason why she had a quarrel with her houseboy was because she had booked his journey on Sri Lankan Airlines and he wanted to change it to Emirates which is more expensive. She said she would have not objected if he had given the difference to them. But what he did was, he contacted to the travel agent and attempted to make the change without consulting them, telling the agency that her husband was not in town and the houseboy had the right to change it which could have cost them extra. However, they came to know about this and they were furious! They laid off the houseboy as they cannot stand lying and deceitfulness.
Another resident who lives in The Springs region says this has emerged as a new problem. She says that she hired a housemaid two months ago through a Dubai Maid Agency and flew her by Air Arabia. As soon as the maid entered her residence, she started complaining that she is accustomed to flying by Emirates Airlines. The resident was stunned to hear this.
Most of the people in Dubai insist that employers should not submit to this demand. One resident says that it is very rude of domestic workers to think that the airfare cost should not be considered while buying tickets for them. She says that even if she were to pay for the extra luggage, it is perfectly alright rather than paying for an air ticket for an airline like Emirates. She concludes by saying that since the employer pays for the airfare, it should be their decision only and not of the housemaids.
