Avignon Attractions Worth Checking Out
A commune located in the southeastern part of France, Avignon is visited by tourists for its well-preserved ramparts and wonderful sceneries, which are often consists of medieval buildings and magnificent architectures. Fort Saint-Andre
Avignon is also known for its castles that stand grand and majestic against wonderful backdrops. One of these castles is Fort Saint-Andre, which dates back to the 13th century. The castle was originally built to show the supremacy of the Kingdom of France. Standing atop a rocky outcrop at Mount Andaon, this castle was designed by architect Jean du Luvre. Tourists who want to see the interiors of this castle may have to pay a fee.
Palais Des Papas
Located near Fort Saint-Andre, the Palais Des Papas is a massive Gothic structure that is considered to be one of the most important buildings in entire Europe. This building was once the residence of popes and anti-popes in the 14th century and had witnessed several historical events. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
