Accessible Social Media Metrics' Enhancement

Your Indie-pub novel's hot off the presses. You've 'gotta' write a scintillating sequel (love that poetry) to your amazing debut novel, like now, right. What're you spending your time doing? Don't tell me, I know. Facebook, Google+1, WordPress blog(s) and what the 'heck' is Pinterest, anyway?
Take all that marketing 'mumbo-jumbo' hype and stuff it 'you know where'! I see you shaking your head. You're saying, "I 'gotta' get up to speed about marketing or my book'll drown in the sea of stuff getting out there every day.
Whoa! Grasshopper. Do you remember David Carradine in the 70s "Kung Fu" television series? Maybe you don't, but I do. The lessons taught to the grasshopper, a young kung-fu student in a Shaolin monastery, equipped me for many of life's trials and tribulations. Some things take a lifetime to learn.
How'll you ever learn how to juggle all the social-media platforms? History teaches best. Think of the Romans. Divide and conquer. You can't learn all of the platforms at once. Take 'em on one at a time.
First, choose the platform you're most as ease with. I plunged into Facebook six months ago ...
... mainly because my kids could get me started. Using any platform effectively demands a steep learning curve. Why do I prefer Facebook? Success, of course!
What metrics do I use to define success? I look for answers to a few basic questions.
First, is there an easy exchange of expertise, bolstering my skill set? Some pages have tons of members, but your questions get swallowed by the ebb and flow of what I call Facebook 'high tide'. Gravitate toward pages with less people, but meaningful connections.
Second, can I swap skills? Make sure you are not a 'taker'. Always remember, what goes around comes around. Do things for people and don't expect equal gratification. Just give. Be satisfied building networks. Monetizing book reviews advanced my credibility and guess what? I discovered I have a talent for writing them. Who cares if occasionally I wrote more reviews than I got back? It's win-win for me.
Third, ask yourself how to budget your time on social-media platforms while leaving creative energy to grow your writing output. Marketing demands quality content. Never forget rule number one: write 2000 words-a-day. I set my alarm one hour earlier several days-a-week and manage social-media networks from 6:30 to 8:00 am. Start writing stories with your second espresso.
Last (for now), but not least, never forget to say thank you.
So, you got some hard-won advice here today. Remember, pleasure abounds while communicating with people. Take the proficiency you learn at one social-media platform and transfer it to the next, piggybacking your strengths in one domain to all subsequent efforts.
