Dubai Police To Reward 'well-mannered' Maids

Housemaids who are well-mannered will be revered and rewarded by the Dubai Police to advance them to develop good relationships with the employers and their families they are working with, said a senior police representative. The Dubai police’s Investigation and Criminal Department is making the initiative of revering domestic workers as part of their police campaign which is known as “Domestic Helpers, Accusations and Care”. They have taken this initiative in order to decrease the crimes performed by domestic helpers in Dubai. An official of Training and Development Division of the CID said that families might recommend their maids if they show excellent behavior by referring their nomination to the Dubai police. The applications can be sent through emails or fax or through telephone by employers. The families who wish to recommend their domestic worker or housemaids have to send a depiction of their helper and explain why they wish their helper to be honored. He added that there are maids who have served the same family for a period of more than fifteen years. There is a growing demand for domestic helpers among the expatriate and Emirati families in the United Arab Emirates. This is due to in majority of the cases larger families require housemaids and also many mothers are working. These families mostly get housemaids from Agencies For Maids in Dubai or Dubai Housemaid Agency. Regarding the crimes committed by housemaids, the official said that maids are mostly propelled to do crimes because of mistreatment. Some sponsors also hire domestic helpers illegally, which makes the situation worse. The Dubai police senior official has also employed a housemaid who has been functioning for the family for a period of beyond 15 years. There housemaid who is from Philippines, said that she come to the UAE to work as a housemaid for the first time in the year 1987. She worked for a family through a Maids Dubai Agency for some time and then went to Qatar for a couple of years. She came back to the UAE in 1999, and started working for the Delhi Police Official. And she also said that when she came in 1999, their son was only one year old. She learned cooking and cleaning the house. She has great praise for the family as she says that she feels that she is a part of the family. She says that the family considers her as one of their own and they appreciate her and her faiths. The driver of the family takes her every Sunday to the church. Moreover, the family gives her greetings on all religious occasions and this gesture makes her comfortable and happy. She loves the family so much that she cannot imagine living without them. She has developed a strong bond with them and does not feel like leaving them even after retirement.
