A Tale Of Two Cities Musical - A Recreation Of The Riveting Era Of The French Revolution

A Tale Of Two Cities musical inspired by a Charles Dickens novel of the same name is penned by a Broadway newcomer, Jill Santoriello. The show has a musical score which is reminiscent of the soaring musical epics such as Jane Eyre and Les Miserables. The musical has been in the development stage for many years and finally, had a test run in the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, last fall.
Broadway previews of the epic musical are expected in August and the show is set for a September 18th opening at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. No director has yet been announced but it is expected that Warren Carlyle who directed the show in Florida will take the helm yet again. Although the casting has not yet been announced for A Tale Of Two Cities musical on Broadway, many of the Florida cast members are likely to make a return.

Now this is what A Tale Of Two Cities is all about. Dr. Manette who is released from the French Bastille after being imprisoned for 17 years has to be rescued from the brink of insanity by Lucie, his daughter. Following his release from the French Bastille, they travel to London where they encounter two very different men who will change their lives irrevocably. One is Charles Darnay, an exiled French aristocrat who Lucie finally marries and the other is Sydney Carton, a drunken cynic. Before long, political turmoil and family secrets conspire to bring Lucie and her family back to Paris. A Tale of Two Cities musical finally finds a totally unexpected hero in Sydney Carton at the height of the Reign of Terror.
The Cast Of A Tale Of Two Cities
James Barbour who essayed the role of the drunken cynic, Sydney Carton in the show's Florida opening is expected to repeat his performance in the Broadway show as well. Barbour has also starred in other shows on Broadway such as Beauty And The Beast, Assassins, Jane Eyre and Carousel. Four-time Tony Award nominee, Greg Edelman takes on the role of Dr. Manette. The cast also includes Kevin Earley as Earnest Defarge, Craig Bennett as Jerry Cruncher, Natalie Toro as Madame Therese Defarge, Nick Wyman as John Barsad and Tim Hartman, Jennifer Evans, Les Minski, Drew Aber, Catherine Brunnel and William Thomas Evans among others. James Neglia is the music coordinator and the musical direction is by Kevin Stites. Set design is by Tony Walton, lights by Richard Pilbrow and costumes by David Zinn.
