So you’re new at the job and you want to start making friends? For many people, it isn’t always an easy thing to do, because in most workplaces people form their clicks or form their own groups and they don’t usually waste time trying to make the newbie feel welcome. First things first, if you want to make friends at work you should get out of your comfort zone and actually start talking. Find out more about the individual group members, who the designated leaders are, who the most influential people of the group are, and why the group was formed in the first place – there is definitely a common thread... that’s your catalyst.
After you do this, you should try to screen the groups to find out which of them suits you the most. Then, try to break into them.

Avoid the rogues
There are always loners that don’t really hang out with anyone. So, what should you do? Gather with them to make your own group? Never!
Stay away from the loners, chances are they’re not even interested in making friends at work. They aren’t ready to invest their time or tongue on work friendships, whether its because they have external factors or other worries. Hang with people like you not with rogue loners.
Hang with people on breaks
Breaks are when friendships are truly forged. Don’t go home or out to lunch on your own and don’t take every single free moment to get outside to smoke or relax – try to take your common free time to bond with your colleagues.
This is so important that many of the larger corporates now encourage and expect that their team hang out at least once a week, and these days its expected that as part of a team you represent your organization at corporate sporting events for example.
