How To Write Through Writer's Block And Recharge Your Muse

When you experience high levels of creativity, words flow more speedily and naturally on to a blank paper or white word processor screen. You can type 50-words a minute without even taking a breath. The only time you pause is to admire the brilliant sentence that you've just written. When you feel unstoppable at writing a story, you're in the "zone." This is your muse singing melodies in your ear, helping you to craft descriptive words and interesting storylines. But what happens if you face the opposite, as all writers face? Your inner muse decides to take a break, and leaves you stranded in a black void of writer's block.
Writers might feel depressed, irritated, or frustrated and eventually decide to take a break too. Best-selling authors tend to divide themselves on how to solve this dilemma: 1) either force yourself to write, or 2) take a long break until you feel ready again. The problem with the second choice is that you may never feel ready. In my opinion, I have found it more beneficial to struggle through the pains of writer's block because whatever I am writing will eventually trigger another brilliant thought, ...
... recharging my muse. A creative writer should be willing to write, even if it is nonsense at first. The will and power of the writer to push through writer's block is inspiring in itself. It is better to write five hundred words of metal slop, than to stare angrily at a blank screen, wishing words would magically appear.
Here are some common tips to welcome your muse back if you find yourself struggling to write the next sentence. One tip is to write something completely different from what you are writing. Many creative writers and screenwriters, especially those beginning a writing career, enjoy writing random articles on different topics for clients. This method works effectively to train yourself to write, even through boredom, because it motivates you to write for a paycheck and satisfy the client with excellent work. Writers must also research to write on diverse topic, thus exposing them to new ideas. The moment you begin to write, you will reactivate your creativity. Shortly, you find yourself-as if by a magic spell-writing thoughtfully-inspired lines, brimming with creativity.
If you do not want to freelance on the side and just stick with writing stories or screenplays, then develop routine writing exercises to charge your creativity. For example, you can visit Google News and read the headlines that grab your attention. You can read current news stories from many categories that interest and inspire you. You are bound to find a dozen or so that tug at you to fully read them. You can choose one or more news stories and write an alternative end to each of them. This exercise will stimulate your creativity and keep your mind engaged on writing something unique and out of your comfort zone.
If you are stubborn or too lazy to fight through writer's block, then force yourself to do something out of the ordinary. Go to a restaurant and eat something completely abstract. Go to a place you have never visited, talk to a stranger, do an activity that is out of your norm. Exposing yourself to different activities will let you experience new ideas and help kickstart your creativity. In the end it is better to write, than to not write at all.
Creativity is like a muscle-by exercising it regularly, your creativity will help you write for longer periods of time. You will experience less mental fatigue and feel more motivated when returning to your story.
