Teachers tend to repeat the same mistakes when writing their letter. They go online, download a cover letter sample, and make some changes to it, then send the modified sample cover letter to a potential employer.

The problem is, accompanying sample letters and templates are generic documents. They were designed to be an example of what a cover letter should look like. They were not designed to be your end product. They do not show what a unique individual you are.

Worst of all, there is nothing about them that make them appear any different from the cover letters to many other candidates. Your cover letter is your personal sales letter. Its job is to put you in evidence, and you sell as the best candidate for the teaching position. It must capture the reader's attention, and give them a little information about you.

If you want to work as a teacher, you need to write a cover letter that shows the person that you are the one they want to hire. The first thing you want to avoid is the "Dear Hiring Manger" line. Find the name of the person who makes the hiring decisions, and then use it in the opening. ...
... Using the names of people will get their attention, especially when so many others are too lazy to try to find this piece of information.

Follow this up by mentioning the specific position you want. Show you're after something specific, not any job that comes.

Educators know that for a teacher to be effective they need to engage students, and make the subject interesting. If you want the chance to do it, you better be able to make you look attractive. When you discuss your qualifications as a teacher, be sure to use language that expresses your passion for teaching. If there are some parts of the education that you really like, say it.

Make sure that those who do the hiring feel how much you care. You only have one page to make your point. You're not going to paint the whole picture here, you are simply looking to generate some interests when they read your resume and give you a teacher interview.

Make sure the areas you choose to highlight are relevant and show your passion for teaching. Try to write the way you talk.

Hiring managers are often overwhelmed by the number of teachers looking for jobs. They do not have time to read each letter and application that comes across their desk. They rely on scanning the letter to determine whether it is worth considering. If you catch their attention, you can get an interview. If it looks like all the other free samples accompanying letters, your information will be on the garbage heap.

Your last step is to request an interview. While it may be inferred that you want an interview, you should always ask. There is power in calling for action to be taken. It makes it a little harder to push the letter aside.

By showing that you are a unique individual with a passion to be a teacher, your cover letter will attract attention. Once you get the interview, the rest is up to you. Enjoy your chance to stand out and be recognized.
