Qutub Minar – One Of Its Kinds In The World

Majority of the tourists coming to India are routing their trip through Delhi because not only, it is the capital of India but because of its gloried past. Delhi has so many buildings and architectural marvels like Red fort, Jama Masjid, Qutub Minar and many more. There are many other monuments also who holds a prominent position in the Indian history.
Before going on Qutub Minar tour know about the Qutub Minar history. This is situated in Mehrauli and its foundation was laid in 1199 by Qutub-Ud-Din Aibak. He started this building but could not finish this project because he died when he was playing Polo in Lahore. The construction work was finished by his successor Iltumush. Some historians believe that it was built for Muezzins to make a call for the prayer while others believe that it signifies the rule of Muslims in India. Whatever the reason was for the construction of this masterpiece, today it is the only tower with this height and such stone work. This is the tallest stone tower in the world. This is said to be inspired by the other structures of the Islamic world like minar of Jam; which is situated in Afghanistan. ...
... Qutub Minar is a five storey tower with each floor having a balcony.
The total height of the Qutub Minar is 72.5 meters with a base diameter of 14.3 where as the top diameter is 2.7 meters. Quranic verses are written on the walls of Qutub Minar.
There are many attractions in the same vicinity and the Qutub Minar visit timings are from 6 A.M to 6 P.M.
Iron Pillar
It is situated within the premises of the Qutub Complex. This is one of the most researched metallurgical pieces of art. The total body weight of the pillar is 6511 kg with a height of 7.20 meter. The used iron is in malleable form and there is also a myth about it that whosoever will encircle it with his arms will have their wish granted.
Tomb of Ala-Ud-Din Khilzi
This tomb is also located at Qutub Minar Complex. It was constructed in 1316 AD. There is also a Madarsa which he constructed for the Islamic studies. He was from the Khilzi dynasty.
Alai Darwaza
The southern part of the Quwwat-Ul-Islam mosque was constructed by Ala-Ud- Din Khilzi in 1311. This building signifies the Islamic style in its arches and domes. The ornamentation is done with white marbles and red sandstone. It is said that Turkish artisans were hired for the completion of this project.
Alai Minar
It is said that there is another minar’s foundation was laid in the northern part of the same premises by Ala-Ud-Din Khilzi. He was a great ruler and conquered many parts in the southern India. He wanted to make this minar with double the size of existing Qutub Minar. He had this vision when he returned from Deccan. He also increased the size of Quwwat-Ul-Islam mosque. But unfortunately he died after starting this tallest minar project and this uncompleted project is still there with the height of 25 meter. Delhi Tourism is a better way explore city monuments history.
