There are different types of water filter that you can install beneath your kitchen sink. Such a water filter under sink can offer you the taste of bottled water at just a fraction of what you pay for a bottle. Installing these filters is quite simple and easy. All that you require is mounting hardware, compression fittings and Teflon tape.

Installation Process

To start with, it is important that you remove the line that connects to the cold water supply line to the faucet that is located beneath the sink. This is a simple task and involves loosening the nuts that secure the line. Once you have disconnected the line, make sure that you use a Teflon tape on the fittings so that they can help seal filter lines that are yet to be installed. Ideally, the filter has to be installed between the faucet and the cold water supply line and this is done in place of the rigid line that was removed. Next, install the water filter canister in a specific way that will enable the water to flow into the filter by way of an inlet. Here the water passes through a filtration process before flowing out of the filter ...
... by way of an outlet. If required, you can remove the canister body so that you can easily access the filter and replace it as and when necessary.

Filter Kit

Water filter under sink installation involves a filter kit. This kit includes filter supply lines that enables you o connect the water supply line to your water filter’s inlet. The flexible lines can be bent according to the space available. The filter kit also includes compression fittings which are used for connecting the flexible supply lines. Compression fittings are an ideal way of joining the water lines. To create a proper connection at the bottom, attach one of the first flexible lines to the cold water supply line. Next, place the plastic line end into the cold water supply and tighten it with a compression nut. Make sure that the cold water supply line is shut off.

Final Step

While installing a water filter under sink, ensure that the filter is connected to the cold water supply line. This is important because the filter will not function efficiently if you connect it to the hot water supply line. Ensure that you connect the top by attaching one end of a flex line to your kitchen faucet. Once this is done, you can take the other end of the line and attach it to the external portion of the filter. Next, make sure that the canister is mounted at a particular position so that there is enough clearance beneath. This completes the installation of your water filter under sink.

How Reverse Osmosis Filters work

Reverse osmosis based filters work by effectively making use of power to force the water through a semi permeable membrane. Though this type of filter uses almost three times the water treated, it is still the most effective of domestic water filters as it not only eliminates a variety of bacteria but also most chemicals.
Finally, whether it is under sink or reverse osmosis, the purpose of any water filter is get rid of impurities and generate pure drinking water.
