Pinhole Glasses: A Long-lasting And Comfortable Vision Correction Aid
There are various eye care products available in the market today, eye glasses are the most common among them. There are also different types of eye glasses worn for different reasons. One such type is the pinhole eyeglasses. Pinhole glasses or stenopeic glasses, a Greek word for a small opening, are eye glasses made of an opaque plastic sheet in place of ordinary lenses. They have a series of perforations the size of pinholes. They use the pinhole camera concept, where light passing through a small opening is restricted only to the rays of the object being viewed. Similarly pinhole eyeglasses allow a small beam of light to enter the retina producing a clearer image for eyes with a refractive error.
The main disadvantage of pinhole glasses is reduction of brightness and peripheral vision and hence not recommended for somebody operating machinery, driving or any other activity involving motion. However some users claim that they can be used as a vision correction tool and reduce eye strain from extended computer use. For other users they are ...
... said to cause multiple images. Pinhole glasses can be safely used by any person of any age. The only exception is people with acute myopia.
Other common uses of pinhole eyeglasses include watching television, reading classroom boards for those with difficulties or reading labels and menus. In trying to keep up with modernity, pinhole eyeglass designs have constantly changed. Initially they were made of flat or slightly curved lenses with actual holes punched through them. Nowadays they are almost identical to ordinary sunglasses with the pinholes on the inner side of the lenses.
Pinhole eyeglasses also have various advantages, these include, providing a clearer image at all distances, they are long-lasting and are way cheaper than ordinary eyeglasses. They are also light in weight and the frames quite comfortable compared to many prescription glasses. Pinhole glasses do not require regular upgrades such as the ordinary prescription glasses. They can also be used to serve both medical and fashion needs as they usually help your eyes relax. Despite all these benefits, their popularity has constantly declined compared to ordinary eye glasses.
