Why Abortion Won’t Go Anywhere

As you may know, new laws once again surfaced regulating abortion in American states—some states ridiculously stricter than normal. There are more threats now to abortion because of restrictions from the government. Anti-abortion activists are, of course, overjoyed by this current development. But abortion advocates from the pro-choice movements also have voices that rise above this pressing predicament to any abortion clinic. No matter how things turn out, I believe that abortion is still here to stay. Why? The following are just few of my reasons.

It is, above all else, a business

Abortion providers invest much (just as in any other business) just to provide this kind of service for women. Although this can be a commodity, depending on the quality of the abortion clinic’s facilities, most women are able to afford the expenses demanded by abortion clinics. When you focus to this angle in the whole issue, a businessman can’t just abandon his business then and there. A businessman has to fight to keep his business floating and thriving, which leads me to the next part.

A business must adapt to its environment ...
... to survive

This is always the way, not the other way around. Businesses always have to make a good impression to everyone around them. Whether they are selling a product or a service, they always have to be in the good side or in the good graces of their consumers. So, what is the implication of this mentality to abortion clinics all over America? Well, I believe it is for them to aspire to be better in every aspect of their business. If they can bring positive change in any of their services—say, yearly—that will be very admirable. To rise above your criticisms and become better is always the better choice.

It is a business that advocates choice among women

There are a few services that solely give women this prerogative. Not all of them might be aware of this, but women need all the confirmation, support and encouragement they can get to feel secure about themselves. Having the power to decide about their futures is one way of acquiring that security. Whether they want to give up their child for adoption or give it up all together through abortion while it is still in their tummies is only for them to decide. Abortion providers help women in the aspect of deciding whether they want to have children or not.

Women can’t be left with less options

This is a sequel to my previous reflection. Because women need all the confirmation, support and encouragement they can get, they can’t be left with less options on how they live their lives. For some women, abortion can be the only option so that they can continue living the lives they know. Most women want to stay in their comfort zones, and having a child to care for will take them away from all the thing they are comfortable and familiar with. Taking away this option is like taking away one of their rights. And it just is not fair for them, is it?
