Delegation is defined as the assignment of responsibility and authority to another person to carry out particular activities. For instance, a senior nurse may delegate specific duties to a junior nurse. Delegation in nursing offers a means of increasing productivity and also empowers people playing subordinate roles to make worthwhile decisions especially where computer collaboration tools such as HCS Services are used to support people with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in the United States presents five rights to delegation from the standpoints of both nursing service administrators and staff nurses. These are: the task to be delegated but be appropriate for delegating, the task must be delegated under the right circumstance, the task must be delegated to the right person, the right direction or communication channel must be followed ...
... when delegating the task, and the right supervision of evaluation must be implemented during the delegation process. These rights are critical when using HCS services in the delegation process.

In addition to the five rights to delegation, there are four guidelines for effective delegation. These are: first, delegation requires resident nurses to make decisions depending on needs of patients, the complexity of work involved, the competency of the individual to be assigned the task, as well as the time that the work is to be done. Second, delegation in nursing requires that timely information about the individual be shared; it also defines particular expectations, makes clarification of any adaptation of the work in the perspective of the individual patient condition, and offers required guidance and support by the resident nurse. Third, during the process of delegation, ultimate accountability for process and results of care, including those that have been delegated, is retained by the resident nurse. During the delegation process, resident nurses make assignments and the care giver accepts responsibility, authority, as well accountability for the duty that is assigned.

The advent of intellectual developmental disabilities software has made the process of delegation in nursing simpler in areas such as intellectual and developmental nursing because many crucial aspects of intellectual and developmental disabilities in nursing can be taught using developmental disabilities software. Computer technology providers such as TaskMaster Pro Technologies have a wide range of developmental disabilities software technologies to help people with intellectual developmental disabilities enjoy the learning process while under the care of a nurse.

The use of intellectual developmental disabilities software makes it possible to offer assistance to such patients seamlessly, and also makes delegation easier since the nurse who accepts a given responsibility simply has to follow the directions given by the person who is delegating the task regarding the use of the software. Thus, thanks to the developmental disabilities software from providers like TaskMaster Pro Technologies, it is possible to offer better care and even delegate duties in the management of conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, mental disabilities in patients, Asperger’s Syndrome, and Rett’s Syndrome among others.
