Electric Airsoft Guns
An Introduction
Airsoft guns are generally used for recreational purposes. These guns are replicas of the original guns but lack their killing firepower. These guns usually fire quite harmless plastic pellets and are used to play airsoft sports which may include skirmishes or marksmanship games. Airsoft guns use either gas powered mechanism or spring powered mechanism in the early models. As technology improved over time, the advent of electric guns took place. Electric Airsoft Guns have a battery. This battery runs an electric motor which drives a piston for firing pellets. The motor also rotates the firing assembly which is used to automatically load the next firing round in the chamber. Gas powered airsoft guns usually used compressed gases such as Carbon Dioxide or Green Gas. Some also have pneumatic systems based on compressed air. The spring powered guns use the potential energy stored in a spring by compressing it through the power put by a user in loading an airsoft gun.
Electric Airsoft Guns
The new category in airsoft guns has appeared with the arrival of various kinds of Electric Airsoft Guns. These ...
... guns run typically on a rechargeable battery or a set of batteries for a larger model. These guns have an electric motor which rotates the internal assembly of the gun. These guns usually have exactly similar firing options as that of real guns. These firing modes include single shot, three round burst and full automatic just like modern battle rifles. These guns have become so popular that they have created a new of AEG form them. AEG stands for Automatic Electric Guns. They have a range of muzzle velocities that can go as high as over 600 ft/s while typical rate of fire is multiple hundreds of pellets per minute. These were first developed in Japan and marketed by the famous Tokyo Marui company which dominates the Electric Airsoft Gun market. These guns use a gear box which is driven by the electric motor. This gear box drives a piston assembly against a spring to load it. Most Airsoft manufacturers have devised their electric gun models now on the basis of this Japanese design of AEGs.
Power Source
Electric-powered airsoft guns typically use a rechargeable battery or batteries to drive an electric motor, which cycles an internal piston/spring assembly in order to launch pellets. Automatic, 3 round burst, and semi-automatic operation is possible which gives these guns the popular name "automatic electric guns" or AEGs.[8] These guns often attain muzzle velocities from 150 to 650 ft/s (46 to 200 m/s) and rates of fire of between 100 and 1500 rounds per minute. They are the most commonly used and widely available type of airsoft gun. These guns were powered traditionally by Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries which generally ran on 8.4 V. Smaller batteries are also common which are used in smaller models or electric pistols which have a lower energy capacity. Higher battery capacity of course increases the time of usage while the voltage rating controls the rate of fire of an electric gun. New Lithium Polymer batteries are now being used in these guns which are much more capable than the batteries of the previous generation both in terms of battery capacity and supplied voltage. These batteries are also physically lighter than the NiMH batteries.
Realistic AEGs
There are many modifications such as metal bodies and reinforced plastics which make AEGs seem exactly like the real guns. There firing rates are also similar to the original guns. There are many manufactures these days which are preparing Electric Airsoft guns of various qualities and prices. Electric BlowBacks are also now available which give the similar firing jolt of real weapons.
