Everything About Nutrition
Just as a vehicle needs gas to run, the body needs fuel too and its power source is nutrition. It enables the body to function the way it should and keeps it healthy as well. The body receives its supply of nutrition from the different foods that we consume. It helps the body carry out all its functions and helps it protect itself from attack from bacteria, viruses and toxins. From the food that has been consumed, the body is tuned to absorb basic yet very essential vitamins, minerals, fats, carbohydrates, proteins and water as well. All these eventually find their way into our bloodstream.
Once the body has absorbed all the nutrition, it gets broken-down and becomes less complex post which it is transported to every cell in the body. Each cell in our body performs a specific function and it is important that each one perform its allotted duty appropriately. The nourishment that the body receives, determines how well the cells of our body will perform. A balanced diet and the right kind of nutrition sustain the health of the body, improves its resistance to disease and the mortality rate of human beings.
We all ...
... know and have learnt that nutrition is all important, but let’s learn why exactly it is so. In scientific terms, nutrition is the practice or science of consumption and utilization of foods. A study of nutritional science reveals that all food in the body is broken-down and ingested via a method called catabolism. This material is used in the repair of cells and tissues that have got damaged and in building completely new cells as well. This process is called anabolism. The human body depends on nutrition to sustain itself and plays an important role in every stage of life.
From the point of time that the egg is fertilized by the sperm, through the fetal stages of growth, birth and all the stages of life, nutrition plays a pivotal role. Once we understand what nutrition is, we will also understand why it is so important. All food has one or the other form of nutrition. Protein, carbohydrate, fat, mineral, vitamins, fiber and water, are all ingredients of food that provide nutrition.
All nutrients is classified into micronutrients and macronutrients. Micronutrients are required in smaller quantities while the body needs macronutrients in larger ones.
Each kind of nutrient has its own special place in the body and a lack of any one will lead to a deficiency of some sort. Providing the body with the right kind of nutrition means the body stays protected from diseases and other medical conditions. These can be reduced and prevented by maintaining a balanced diet. Carbohydrates, proteins and fats provide the body the energy it needs to perform everyday functions. Minerals are crucial for the healthy development of teeth and bones while protein helps in building and strengthening the muscles in our body.
Colorful vegetables and fruits possess anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. All in all, it is important to include a little bit of every food in your daily diet.
