While cheap travel deals, such as cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, cheap auto rentals, and cheap vacation packages may provide the means for your next beach vacation, your personal behavior once there will be key in how enjoyable that vacation is for you as well as others.

• Do not play games like Frisbee or volleyball among crowds. Such activities can be loud and intrusive for beach enthusiasts who prefer to just relax. Keep games away from crowded areas so that you do not accidentally trample blankets, kick sand or unintentionally hit someone.

• Never leave trash behind. Careless trash disposal is particularly harmful to marine life as well as unsightly. • Do not run in the sand which often results in kicking up sand on strangers’ beach blankets. If you want to jog on the beach, stay on wet, hard packed sand at the water line.

• Do not feed Seagulls. Not only is it annoying to have Seagulls trying to steal visitors’ picnic food, it is also unhealthy for the gulls. Handouts of bread and fast food can make birds sick and result in attracting too many birds.

• Be respectful and observe local customs on beaches, including the type of clothes and public behavior that is acceptable. Tiny bikinis are not suitable on beaches in some countries. In some areas of Europe and Australia sunbathing in the nude is not uncommon.

• Do not shake out your towel when others are nearby and make certain that whatever (including clothing and shoes) you are shaking out is downwind from others.

• Do not let your dog run unattended on the beach. Even though many breeds are good swimmers, dogs can get caught in dangerous riptides. Make certain you pick up after your dog if it has a bowel movement. Also make certain that his tags clearly display your name and contact information in the event that he “escapes.”

• Do not forget headphones and leave your boombox at home. Be considerate so that everyone can enjoy their own playlists, books, or the relative peace and quiet.

• Do not ignore warning signs that indicate things like riptides, strong currents, and jellyfish. Monitor the color codes flags throughout the day. Be aware that many beaches follow their own systems regarding warnings.
