The Language Of Online Poker
Just as the online casinos have a language of their own so does the game of online poker. It will take no time at all for you to familiarize yourself with poker jargon, and here's a bit to add to your new vocabulary.
Once you have determined that you are going to learn about online poker then you are in for some very interesting times. Not just from the game itself but from your learning experience.
If you have never played poker of any type before, the first time you open up a book to read about it, you are going to think it is written in some type of strange language. Welcome to the world of Poker jargon.
Most of the online poker sites have good articles or instructions on how to play the various games. You will need to know the basic terminology of the game but it really won't take very long to learn it. What you will find interesting is some of the other terms outside of the basics. They too don't take very long to learn and in no time, at all you will become a seasoned pro at not only the game but also speaking the language.
Here are just a very few of some of the interesting terms in various ...
... types of poker and their meanings.
Action
If you are playing in a game, which is moving fast, and many pots are being played then this particular game is called an action game. There will be lots of checking, betting and raising taking place.
Belly buster
If you are going after an inside straight and you pull the draw or catch then you have a belly buster.
Broomcorn Buster
You're just at the end of your money and it's a do or die situation. You ante to the point of breaking your bank then you are a broomcorn buster.
Kansas City Lowball
As you are well aware, there are numerous varieties of poker. Every time you think you have heard about them all another one pops up. Kansas City lowball is a variety of poker. There's a bit of a twist to this game though because the worst hand turns out to be the winning hand. This type of poker will keep you on your toes if you are used to playing the other varieties where the best hand is the winning hand.
Steel wheel
If you have gotten yourself a five high straight and its all the same suit then you have a steel wheel hand.
As we said these are just a very few of the types of terminology that you are going to come across when it comes to poker. There is nothing in the rules that says that you have to use them or know them if you are going to play. There are just loads of fun and like most activities have developed into a jargon. Don't think that knowing and using them is going to paint the picture that you are a pro player. It's what you do with those cards and the decisions that you make that will determine just how good of a poker player you are.
