It has been widely accepted that a well trained dog leads to a better relationship between owner and pet. A well-trained dog is a more pleasant companion and makes owning a pet more rewarding. For the sake of a good relationship between your canine and you, keep reading.

It is very easy to teach a pooch to roll over as long as you have some tasty treats on hand. The first step is to get the dog to lay down. Then, position a treat near the floor to one side of him, raise it up and move it over to the opposite side. He will probably follow the treat, rolling side to side as it moves. Each time he sways to one side, tell him to "roll over". Keep doing this until the treat is no longer needed. It may take a while to get to this point, but you will be pleased if you stick with it. It's an impressive trick.

Make sure a reward is always handy for whenever the dog does what you want. Giving a treat is how you show your dog that you appreciate the behavior. You need to do this because your dog must know what they can and cannot do.

As you train your dog, be certain to gain his attention the same way every time. Use ...
... his or her name when giving a command. Get their attention and then follow up with whatever you want them to do. Dogs will respond instantly when their name is called if they know they are going to be rewarded.

Let your dog get a minimum of an hour of exercise every day, and do this in addition to standard breaks outside for potty and training. Keeping a dog healthy with exercise allows for more efficient training sessions in the future. When your dog is exercised, he is also happy.

Varying your vocal tones to suit different purposes can be helpful in dog training. You should have a different tone for commands, praises and corrections to help teach your dog the appropriate responses for each. Commands should be clearly stated in a firm tone. Corrections and reprimands must be spoken more firmly, while praise should be delivered in a natural tone.

To enforce good behavior when training your dog, remember to praise him regularly. Talk in a positive voice, smile and offer your dog some treats when it does something right. Do not reward your dog after bad behavior, it will get confused.

One vital piece of dog training advice is to be resilient and never give up. Your dog will need constant reinforcement, otherwise the behaviors and actions you have taught it may be lost. Consistent training is key to a happy relationship with your pup.

Your dog needs to learn what 'down' means. It can be very useful during emergencies and also serves as a great foundation for future lessons. When something dangerous approaches, the dog will lie down and avoid the problem immediately.

Does your pet strain and pull every time you put him on a leash? This is one of the most common complaints owners have about their dogs, and it's also incredibly easy to remedy. Go to the pet supply store where you can buy a harness for a few dollars, as harnesses reduce pulling so that walks are enjoyable.

Even an old or troubled dog can be helped with a bit of training, and the tips here should start you off on the right paw. Keep your patience up when implementing these tips. Hopefully, you can soon have a better relationship with your dog.
