Why do companies need background verification services? Though comparatively new in India, it has already been quite a couple for years that background check industry is exiting and thriving in the country.
Many background check companies have entered the Indian picture and most of them are doing well. If we go by what observations have been made by one of the top players on the background screening scenario in India, there are a good amount of numbers to looks at.

Other checks having a considerable contribution to the overall discrepancy are address checks and reference checks with 21% and 10%, respectively. The top five discrepancies within employment discrepancies include incorrect timing, no responses from contacts referred by the job candidate, absconding in last employment, shifted or ceased operations of previous employer, and incorrect or unconfirmed referred contacts.
The above number clearly state that most of the people resort to distort their employment details in order to get a better rise in pay packages, to get a better job position and designation and to get a better job role. Job aspirants have been found to fluff up their resumes by adding more responsibilities than handled, by providing incorrect joining and leaving dates, designations, reporting managers and company addresses.
In other words, wrong match of job requirement and job skills would make the all the hiring and on-boarding costs go in drain. Hence, it is important that companies make it a point to conduct employment check so that they are at least sure of the talent they are acquiring.
Even the address check and reference check are increasingly important. Discrepancies in address details raise questions on the employee’s credibility and doubts over real identity. On the other hand, reference check helps in confirming various details that may be hard to confirm otherwise. Also, reference check can give insights on some personality and behavioral issues that may have an impact on the hiring decision.
Paying attention to such details and conducting background check will make companies realize the importance of background check in true sense.
