Where Can I Travel In Lesotho?

Located in Southern Africa, Lesotho is a landlocked country surrounded on all sides by South Africa with Maseru as her capital. Having a population of approximately 2.1 million people who speak Sesotho and English, this is a mountainous kingdom which is cut by countless valleys and ravines, making it a country of great beauty. Three large rivers, the Caledon, the Orange and the Tugela rise from the mountains.
Graced by a temperate climate and well marked seasons makes Lesotho an ideal place to visit any time of the year. Visitors who check in could make themselves comfortable in one of the many hotels of varying quality in the main towns and mountain lodges giving access to the wider regions. Get hotels of international standards in Maseru from the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation. Several lodges like the Malealea Lodge which has its own pony trek centre could also serve you conveniently.
Take your time out and taste the wonderful delicacies served. The main hotels serve international food but other interesting places in various towns exist for you to dine. Hotels and restaurants in Lesotho cater for all ...
... nationalities but much food has to be imported from South Africa. Try the national specialities which include Braai (a South African barbecue), seafood and freshwater fish. Cooking styles include French, Italian, Continental and Chinese. The national drink is good beer which is widely available and better establishments will have a good choice of beers, spirits and wines. Get yourself some handicraft items like Lesotho's famous conical hats, grass woven articles, pottery, tapestries, copper work and ebony items, from the shops and centres. Crown your day at night by visiting a hotel offering live entertainment, a cinema or casino.
Getting around is facilitated by the availability of minibuses in the lowlands and car hire usually in Maseru. With such means, explore the sights in Maseru which include the historic cemetery and the fascinating architecture of the King's Palace and the Prime Minister's residence; see the rugged beauty of the land in Moyeni and Mohales Hoek on horse back, mountain climbing and hiking; trek through the most beautiful parts of Lesotho which include Ramanbanta, Semonkong and the Sehlabathebe National Park; embark on a pony trek through the great falls at Ribaneng, Ketane and Maletsunyane; experience a taste of real Basotho life at an overnight stop in a hut in the rural areas of Basotho or ski in the heart of the Lesotho highlands. You could also view the highest single drop fall in southern Africa, the Maletsunyane Waterfalls, explore the Motlejoeng Caves and observe the Petrified Forest on the mountain of Thaba-Ts'oeu. Alternatively, witness the Bushmen rock paintings near Maseru and appreciate Lesotho's unique species of birds that are rare to southern Africa and can be watched on a trip along the Mountain Road. Don't forget to see where the Basotho made a last heroic stand against the Boers in Thaba Bosiu or revisit history and see dinosaur footprints discovered at Moyeni, Qalo and Morija.
Most visits to Lesotho are trouble free but there have been few incidents of muggings, vehicle hijacking and some sporadic demonstrations. Travellers are advised not to walk around Maseru at night and should also avoid driving in rural areas at night. The threat of terrorism is low but be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks.
