A woman is blamed for torturing her two housemaids and instigating one of them to perish of pneumonia, whilst she did not provide food to them and locked them in her house for a period of more than one month. The maid who survived, who is a Filipina, claimed their 45 year old Emirati employer, hit them with sticks whilst naked and bashed their heads on the wall till they bled and compelled them to drink cleaning products. The housemaid narrated to the court that her Ethiopian associate was so much hungry that she looked for food in the trash. Trial records said that the gravity of the torture and surroundings of their detention caused the Ethiopian housemaid’s death and affected the Filipina maid of 29 years old to suffer serious injuries. Furthermore, the Emirati lady used to force them into the restroom and would remove their clothes and click their pictures of them naked and threatened to send their pictures to their friends. The Ethiopian maid was so sick and the Emirati employer was adamant on not taking the maid to the hospital despite the Filipina maid begged her. The Filipina maid said that when the Ethiopian maid died, the Emirati woman offered her an enormous amount to keep her mouth shut. The Emirati woman’s friend also testified that she saw her friend torturing and beating the housemaids over different times. The husband also admitted that they restricted the maids so that they do not run away. He also revealed to the prosecutors that his spouse was an anxious person and a menace.
