Denver, CO - The Denver Public Schools (DPS) Foundation was established in 1992 in recognition of the fact that public funds alone cannot adequately support the ambitious efforts to advance student achievement in Denver Public Schools. In partnership with Denver Public Schools, DPSF raises and manages funds, makes strategic program investments, and serves as community leaders so that all students have the opportunity to succeed. The DPS Foundation directed nearly $10 million to Denver Public Schools for priority programs and critical needs last year.

On his appointment, Mr. Whalen commented, "This is a great chance to work with some really talented community leaders and education policy makers to transform DPS into the best public school system in America."

Mr. Whalen is a Clinton Foundation Young Philanthropist, served on President Obama's 2012 Gen44 Colorado Campaign Finance Team, and was appointed to the 2012-2013 Colorado Steering Committee for the Fix the Debt Campaign. Mr. Whalen is a 2002 graduate of Dickinson College, a 2007 graduate of The University of Denver Law School, and a 2013 Graduate of Harvard University's Kennedy School Executive Education Program.
