It is a known fact that a substantial amount of traffic is driven from mobile devices, namely the Smartphones and the tablets. It has been found that the mobile devices account for more than 12 percent of Internet traffic. Scaling faster than the desktop traffic, the number would significantly change in the coming decades. As the Smartphone evolves and matures, it has become important that the site owners take the advantage of this trend. Multiple websites have adapted to the mobile-first approach. Providing a range of touch optimized experiences, the users can now take advantage of content in their mobile devices. This would include camera integration, geo location and offline data storage.

Once the website design price has been fixed, targeting the mobile device users is a smart choice as report states that more than 50 percent of mobile users use a Smartphone. The mobile applications enable the site-owners to interact with the audience in complete new methods. This would provide complete new business opportunities as it provides enhanced user-experience and delights the target demographics. The following are some of ...
... the problems in a native only approach.

The first is the cost of supporting multiple platforms. The development of content and user experience across multiple platforms becomes a costly affair. It would require the owner to choose the platform to optimize. This would be translated as offering limited user experience for the users who would search for the content in the non-optimized platforms. The responsive website design facilitates the site owner to target any user irrespective of the device and the browsers they were using at half the rate it would otherwise require in engineering the project.

The second problem is that even when if the site owner chooses a platform, there is a vast array of devices that come in various in geometric dimensions. They have different platforms. This would require the website designers to design mobile-based applications for similar display sizes and resolutions. Management of multiple assets would increase the complexity of the support matrix. It is impossible to select a fixed layout because not all users are using the same app version, with the same features and same bug fixes. The mobile web application developers are still at a stage where people are experimenting with new form factors. The decision is tough as engineers are bombarded with fragmented and volatile landscape of devices that the end-users have integrated in their daily routines.

When the website design price has been determined, taking the responsive website design approach would provide a solution that comes with optimal viewing and customer experience. This would include the enhanced readability, navigation with minimal resizing, panning and scrolling across multiple devices that are available in the market. So what is the appropriate solution in development of a mobile application? Is it cross browser or cross platform? The operating system based applications have been successful in proffering a sophisticated user engagement because they have the access to valuable data and user information such as camera, offline storage, and even the custom font support. Irrespective of this, the modern browsers such as the Google Chrome ver. 22, Internet Explorer 10 or Safari 6 also offer niche user experience because of their extensive HTML5 and CSS3 support. HTML5 facilitates in developing rich applications that also allows access to various media queries, geo-location, offline storage and others. This would allow the sites to adjust irrespective of the hardware and dimensions of the device.
