A sixth form college is an education centre for children generally aged 16-19 in the UK preparing students for qualifications such as GCSEs and A-levels. They were introduced in the 1960s to improve the standard of education post-16. There are state sixth form colleges monitored by the Learning and Skills Council as well as private sixth form colleges.
When students finish their GCSEs, they have a number of educational choices, including – transferring to a local sixth form college, staying at their school if it has an attached sixth form college, or attending vocational education centres.
There are private schools with sixth forms within the school, however many students prefer to enrol in specialist private sixth form colleges that provide students with the right kind of support to reach their potential. These colleges have a low students-to-teacher ratio and use their vast experience in sixth form teaching to stay at the forefront of productive and accessible learning.
