There are many gorgeous places excellently suited to travel in the Republic of Ghana like the Atlantic coast, the Afadjato Mountain among many others. Located in West Africa, Ghana has come a long way from colonialism to being an independent state with a population of 23 million people. English is the country's official language but there are various native languages also spoken in Ghana. If you want to find the best in African heritage, then Ghana is the place to be.

Make the most of Accra, the capital; see a large collection of Ghanaian art in the National Museum and Independence Square, dominated by the Independence Arch and the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier. The coffins at the carpentry workshops of the World famous Fantasy Coffins are interesting at the same time bizarre. Located at Nungua, the Ga people find it fashionable to be laid to rest in a coffin that bears a relationship to what the deceased did in life.

Indulge in some history; all Ghana's castles and forts are UNESCO World Heritage Monuments. Explore the Cape Coast Castle and Fort St Jago, cultural shows are often performed at the castles and ...
... guided tours are available. Another historical attraction is the Royal Mausoleum, which holds the historic capital of the Ashanti civilization. The Larabanga Mosque is a fascinating holy ground, located north of Mole National Park; it houses a holy Koran and is believed by locals to be a ‘God-built mosque'.

How about an African Safari? Start at the Owabi Wildlife Sanctuary and then try the Bia National Park, Bui National Park, Mole Game Reserve and finish at Kakum Nature Reserve. All the stated options are good for hiking and exploring the savannah and rainforest. The Shai Hills Game Reserve is another option that can be explored on horseback. Explore Mole National Park, the largest and one of the best-equipped nature reserves. Visitors have the option of exploring either on foot or a 4-wheel drive vehicle but must always be accompanied by a guide. Discover the area and you might find something worth narrating back at home. The beaches of the Atlantic coast are just waiting for you to divulge them. Between the Labadi Pleasure beach, Kokrobite beach, Coco Beach Resort, Dixcove, Busua and Ada, you will find tropical palms, spectacular Atlantic breakers and swimming. Take a trip in the car ferry to Kete-Krachi on Lake Volta, the largest manmade lake on earth. How about a three day trip to the northern capital of New Tamale at the head of the lake? There are facilities for water sports.

Getting a good place to stay is just as important as a good meal and the few international chain hotels in Ghana offer modern accommodation coupled with a mix of African touch. In Accra, there are several 4-5 star hotels as well as hostels, park lodges and guest houses throughout the country. If you like, there are camping options at Aburi, Akropong and the Shai Hills. Also camping is available on the beach in many of the fishing villages. International food is available in most large hotels and many restaurants serve a range of local traditional foods. In the capital, you'll find restaurants serving Middle Eastern, Chinese, French and other European cuisine. On the coast, prawns and seafood are the order of the day.

In Accra and other major centers, there are nightclubs with Western popular music and Afro beats. Concerts can be seen at the National Theatre in Accra. Foreign and Ghanaian films can be seen at the Ghana Film Theatre and Executive Film House in Accra. Almost all commodities including luxury items can be found in the shops and markets. Artifacts from the Ashanti region and northern Ghana can be bought along the attractive handmade gold and silver jewellery. Modern and old African art is also available. Ghana has a lot to offer the traveler and once you are here, you will never want to leave.
