The law in Scotland is very well known as the Scots Law and has its roots in the Celtic law. This Scots law blog is of much importance.
Around the mid tenth century however, it was particularly revised and influenced by canon law and the feudal law. Later King David I very particularly instigated the use of the sheriffs and other institutions along with other facets of the Anglo-Norman law. The Scottish Parliament has the massive powers over certain areas of the Scottish legal system such as the environment, education, health, local government and criminal justice, but Westminster (the UK parliament) retains the power over such areas as the defence, economic policy, international relations, drug laws etc.
