Dfw Fringe Fest 2009 Kicks Off This Weekend

This weekend the 4th Annual Dallas Fort Worth Fringe Festival kicks off at the Dallas Hub Theatre. The 2009 DFW Fringe Festival will feature dynamic diversity of performing artists both locally and abroad. Beginning on March 27, the DFW Fringe Festival at the Dallas Hub Theater will be the Hub of performances in theatre, music, art, dance, dinner theater and more.
This year participants of the DFW Fringe Fest come from all over the globe and the director Tim Shane is expecting this to be the best ever. The Fringe Fest gives actors/performers the opportunity to showcase new; cutting edge works in a festival setting. Tickets to this show are still available but going fast as again, this is expected to be the best ever.
The line up for this years DFW Fringe Fest are as follows.
The Balthazar Show touts itself as a multi media rock n' roll extravaganza comedy. The show combines music, dance, theatre, costuming, multi-media performance art with lots of props and audience participation. Balthazar heads to the DFW Fringe Fest directly from the backwoods of Arkansas. Performances are March 28 @ 2:30 Pm, April ...
... 11 @ 10:00 PM and April 17 @ 10:00 PM.
Coming from across the pond, waaay across the pond, is Jordy Pordy, Taking the Bull by The Horns, which is written and performed by Jordan Herskowitz. Jordy Pordy is the autobiographical one-man show about the life of a professional mascot. Sound interesting? It is and is only an hour and 15 minutes long.
12 Drink Minimum has played the Dallas Hub Theatre before but makes its debut at the DFW Fringe Festival. A new Comedy Troup that incorporates Games, short improvisations andmarshmallows.
Dead Girl Circus is another Hub Regular and is quickly building an audience for themselves in DFW. Dead Girl Circus is a variety act, which incorporates comedy and tongue in check themed horror. You can catch Dead Girl Circus doing its thing for 2 nights only at this years Fringe Festival.
The Met Theatre will be performing the World Premiere of If By Chance by Donnie Wilson. Inspired by the country's preoccupation with Barack Obama's ethnicity, If By Chance is a moving drama about a biracial college student who strives to be judged by the content of his character and not by the color of his skin.
A show that is going to be worth catching and comes to this years DFW Fringe with much anticipation is Public Works Theatre Company's, Lower Ninth by Beau Willimon. Lower Ninth is a powerful play inspired by the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Lower ninth focuses on the story of two men stranded on a roof after the terrible storm. They must battle heat, hunger and their pasts. Sounds like a fantastic collaboration between Public Works Theatre Company and Dallas Hub Theatre.
Another one-woman show is Ashley Wilkerson's Freckle in My Eye. The story is about She-see Jones, a young woman living on Texas' Death Row. Ashley is the recipient of the DFW Theatre Critics Award and has been recognized by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts.
Sex With Benefits is the show by Daniel Huntley Solon who returns to the DFW Fringe with this new play. Expectations are dashed when a country house tryst isn't what two young men expected.
For a night of double-headers, don't miss McSki - Confessions of a Couch potato and Still Spinning the Bottle V2.0 by returning Fringe Fest participant Krissi Reeves. These shows will run back to back and can be seen for a single admission.
Coming all the way from Cincinnati, Ohio and making their DFW Fringe Debut is the Mattress Tag Cutters. I want to see this show as the title made me laugh! The Mattress Tag Cutters hail themselves as an improvisational comedy troupe threesome unlike any you may have seen. Skilled in a long form improv style called The Bat, which creates a series of scenes using just voice, fun descriptions and active imaginations. I don't think I have seen anything like this. OK, lets go.
While the above are only a few f the artists performing, the complete list includes the Shane Arts Theatrical Ensemble Rep's (SATER) My First Time. My First time is based on true stories sent into a website with the same name. Ninety Eight Theatre will perform Fairytale Blues, which sings the song of a street opera from the Bronx. The Twilight Zone by The Butterfly Connection, 4 out of 5 Doctors The Specialists are a local Dallas Favorite, and last but not least is the Muscle Memory Dance Theatre who will present, BREAKING NEWS: Dancing with the Media.
If the he 4th Annual DFW Fringe is anything like last years, you won't want to miss it. Tickets are on sale now and should sell out.
