Memphis Scores 1st In Good Eats For 2012

For the second time in 5 years Memphis has scored the coveted first place prize in good eats. The prized first place goes to the city with the most prized restaurants in all categories. From Pizza and BBQ to Fine Dining, Memphis has scored higher than all other large cities for the highly coveted spot at the top of the list.
Barzizza, a chairman on the ranking committee, attributes the success of Memphis restaurants to the willingness to innovate and try new things.
Memphis has a tremendous amount of restaurants, and they are very diverse in their selections. Barbeque and steaks are common, but Mexican & Casual Dining are also quite prominent. No matter what your tastes, there's a restaurant in Memphis to suit you.
The never ending trek was completed in November and we have compiled our list of the most noteworthy dining atmospheres in America. While we do submit our favourite and most beloved restaurants we also compile some of the most overrated.
Memphis, Chicago, and Seattle are among the top three cities that receive high marks, while New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta seem to be lagging behind.

... Seattle was one of our favorite and most surprising stops this year. Seattle’s food scene has woken up. I'm thinking particularly of Sitka and Walrus & Carpenter, which are wholly advanced in what they're accomplishing. Short, Simple, and Sweet is the name of the game in Seattle.
Atlanta, my home for a good portion of my life, I'd say is overrated— there are a few restaurants that deserve some praises Horseradish Grill, Eugene, and Antico are some of my favorites. Some advice for the Atlanta restaurants scene is to tackle the lack of diversity; most of the fine dining establishments present very similar menus.
Memphis, where we spent several weeks eating, socializing, and dining, was far and away the most underrated meal scene. This is why we have voted Memphis our number one spot this year.
I'm an eclectic guy and a foodie who has dined at most of the best restaurants in the world... and currently Iris is my favorite. The staff was fantastic, the food was better. I absolutely loved the appetizers. The lobster knuckle sandwich was amazing, but the sweet corn griddle cake with crab ravigote was breathtakingly good. One of the best restaurants we've enjoyed in years.
Next was the never ending BBQ scene. Each BBQ establishment provided a different take on the southern tradition. The never ending hole in the walls all served it up in their own unique way, and all of them claim to be the best. Combined they make up hands down the best BBQ scene in the world. BBQ is a way of life here and you can feel it! It is worth the trip to Memphis for the BBQ alone.
We did quite a bit of fine dining in Memphis as well; too many noteworthy restaurants to name but most all of them were lovely. A new wave of young restaurants has taken footing in Memphis and they aren’t afraid to innovate, be creative, have fun and try something new.
