Hematologic Cancer And Gynecologic Cancer- A Brief Overview
“In the war against cancer, it looks like matchmaking- between genes and drugs- could be an important tool, according to new research into the genetic underpinnings of two rare forms of leukemia. By matching a patient’s genetic mutation responsible for a rare, rapidly progressing form of leukemia with a drug that specifically targets the problem the mutation creates, researchers report that one patient is experiencing fast, marked improvement. According to Julia Maxson, study first author and a postdoctoral fellow at the Knight Cancer Institute, “The move in the field is to take the individual broken genes and say which of these really promote cell growth. Then you can find the right drugs,” as mentioned in the website, which released this news on May 9, 2013. These are all news which points to the deadliest of diseases- that’s Cancer! In today’s article we are going to discuss about two types of cancers- Hematologic cancers and Gynecologic cancers.

... leukemia’s, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas, multiple myeloma (a bone marrow cancer) all come under the Hematologic cancer. Leukemia is the cancer of the blood and bone marrow. There are two major types of leukemia- the lymphocytic leukemia which usually increases the white blood cells or lymphocytes and myelogenous leukemia which is also referred to as myeloid or myelocytic leukemia which in turn usually involves the increase in the white blood cells called granulocytes. Leukemia in turn can be acute as well as chronic. In the acute cases, the cancer spreads rapidly, whereas in the chronic cases the rate of progress is slow. The cause of the disease is not fully understood but scientists and researchers are of the view that benzene which is found in cigarettes can cause myelogenous leukemia. Lymphoma is another type Hematologic cancer which initiates in the lymph nodes and lymph system. Hodgkin’s lymphoma usually spreads in a systematic manner in the lymph nodes whereas non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma spreads randomly.
Gynecologic cancer is a cancer which usually affects women. There are mainly five types of gynecologic cancers. They are ovarian, cervical, vaginal, vulvar and uterine cancers. The common symptoms of gynecologic cancers are totally unrelated to the reproductive organs and so it becomes quite difficult for women to understand the symptoms. Back pain and frequent passing of urine are some of the early symptoms of gynecologic cancer.
So, it is better to keep a note of the changes in your body to detect the symptoms of Hematologic cancer and gynecologic cancer to get cured at the earliest and before it’s too late!
