The plastic has a wide area of applications in all fields such as containers, kitchen wares, appliance casing, furnitures, instrument casing, vehicle dashboards, packing bags, stationeries, electrical insulations, etc.. The plastics are used increasingly every day. Sometimes the applications of glass wares are replaced by the plastics due to its flexibility, light weight and its strength. The plastic wares are manufactured by the molding process. The molding process has the two methods, one is an injection molding process and the other is a blow molding process. In the injection molding process, the plastic is melted and injected into the mold. In the blow molding process, the plastics are blown into the shape of the mold.

The injection molding process uses the injection molding machine container, which does the collective process of feeding the plastic pellets, transition of pellets to molten plastics and motoring the molten plastics to the mold. The injection molding machine container is composed of barrels containing hopper, reciprocating ...
... screws and the heater surrounding the reciprocating screw. The plastic pellets in the form of small grains are fed the plastic mold injection machine through the hopper. The reciprocating screw driven by the electrical motor, takes the plastic pellets to the mold. Since the heater surrounds the reciprocating screw, melts the plastic pellets by the temperatures between 220⁰ C and 270⁰C. The molten plastics are pushed towards the nozzle and waits to be injected into the mold. When the stationary mold and the movable mold are compressed, the reciprocating screw pushes the molten plastics to the mold through the nozzle. The nozzle is designed in a way, to create pressure when plastics flows into the mold. The mold is cooled by circulating cold water. When both the molds are released, the molded plastic is ejected by the ejecting pins in the machine. The movable mold is compressed with the stationary mold by the clamping system. For clamping system either hydraulic clamper or toggle clamper or electrical clamper can be used.

The process of producing one product from the plastic mold injection machine refers to the one cycle of the process. After every five cycles of the process for producing larger objects, the mold should be cleaned, so that the cracks in the mold can be avoided. And also there will be some of plastics deposited on the surface of the mold during compression, that are to be cleaned to avoid defects in the product. There are some company that produces the cleaning materials for the mold. The molds should be preserved to maintain the quality of the product. Before the manufacture process to start, the first sample product of the process of the day should be put to test to ensure that the sample product meets all the specifications when compared with the product’s data sheet.

There are some defects of the product occurs during manufacturing by the factor of pressure applied to inject the molten plastic. By applying high pressure, the molten plastic has the chance of spreading to excess area around the mold and by applying low pressure or less density of plastic, there is the chance of incomplete molding which is referred to as shot defect.
