Have you ever conducted an analysis your own product loss and maintenance costs around your refrigeration equipment? If not, let’s look at scenario, based on actual customer data, to help determine what improperly monitored temperatures are really costing you.

A large lab in the Northeastern US just upgraded their facility and purchase five new 620 Cu. Ft. walk-in freezers at a cost of $24k each. Install costs run about $8k each, for a total of $160k. Each freezer holds $100k worth of product at any one time and the lab runs 24 hours a day.

Although new equipment is installed, laboratory staff is only partially trained on processes related to equipment failures and loading of new product. A lab tech, therefore, is unaware that these new units have their vents in a different location than previous units. New product arrives and is stacked blocking the ventilation system causing the temperature within the freezer to drop below safe temperatures within the the unit. The next day, readings from the morning shift discover $50k is lost and must be disposed.

In addition to product loss, the unit overheats, damaging ...
... the equipment and costing $8k to fix. The incident has resulted in $58k in lost product and equipment maintenance. This also does not take into account the fact you are now short on product, your insurance company has now placed your company as a risk, and you have just lost administrative time handling the claim, reordernig product, the maintenance, and addressing procedural changes.

For a fraction of the cost (under $9k), Infitrak would have developed a preventative program could have saved you thousands. A $9k investment would have prevented this loss through initially qualifying the refrigeration unit’s installation, operation and performance to a set perameters & processes. The process woud have included mapping temperatures within the freezer, creating a validation and training program. It also would have included setting up a live monitoring program with cloud based data access and alers for an entire year. At 1/6th the cost of an incident, it is well worth the investment.

Now run your numbers or contact us to let us and we’ll help you run them.
