What You Can Learn From An Nc Lemon Law Lawyer
The first time I was ever in the market to purchase a new car, I went into it completely blind, not knowing at all what to do or what I was in for. I would scourge the used car lots and compare prices, mileage, and the years the vehicles came out. That's really all I knew to do, as I had never purchased a used car before. Just when I thought I was doing everything I needed to be doing, I ran into my neighbor who asked me how my search was going. Now, my neighbor just so happens to be a North Carolina lemon law attorney, so when I told him what criteria I was using to determine which vehicle to purchase, he raised his eyebrows and told me I needed to be much more scrutinizing in my search. In fact, he warned me that approximately 2.5 million vehicles are wrecked annually, and one million of those end up back on the road. This definitely caught my attention, and so I was ready to listen to any advice he was willing to dispense. After all, he is an expert on the lemon law. North Carolina residents are lucky to have access to such great consumer advocates as my neighbor.
Here are some of the tips for buying a used ...
... car that I learned from my neighbor, the NC lemon law lawyer:
- Beyond comparing the price, mileage, and age of the vehicle, always check the vehicle's history. This includes making sure the vehicle has a clear title and that it has never been totaled due to a severe accident or flooding.
-Verify all of the odometer readings on the title.
-Check the accident and service history of the vehicle. Make sure the car has been well taken care of and are there service records that show routine maintenance. Find out if the vehicle has been written off as a total loss, if the airbags been deployed, and if there is frame damage, etc.
-Look into the ownership history of the vehicle. Find out how many owners the vehicle has had, and what type of owners - fleet vehicles and old rental vehicles are not often good candidates because they aren't always well taken care of as would be a vehicle with a private owner.
-Check for signs of prior damage and repairs. If there is a fresh paint job or clamp marks on the frame of the vehicle, it is likely it has, at some point, undergone some major repairs.
-When you test-drive the vehicle, pay close attention to the feel and the sound of the engine. Observe the functionality of the electronics and the odometer, and make sure all doors and windows open and close properly. Furthermore, make sure the gear shift shifts easily into place, and that there are no strange "ticking" sounds, or the like.
