Do you want to work in Australia? Do not know how the VISA process works? Wondering how long will it take? Have you heard of SkillSelect?
The first thing you should know is that the SkillSelect, a new VISA assessment tool, has made skilled VISA processing faster. This system was introduced by Australia on 1st July, 2012.
So now, you can get selected for a VISA to work and live in Australia on the basis of your skills. With SkillSelect, overseas workers with skills that are most in need in Australia are identified. The State and territory governments in Australia use SkillSelect to search for overseas skilled workers.
So, How Australia SkillSelect Works?
Basically, it is an online service that lets you record your details to be considered for a skilled visa through an Expression of Interest (EOI). Now, the VISA processing is done on the levels of priority. If your EOI is for Employer nominated then it is of the highest priority, followed by state sponsored, occupations on the skilled migration list, and all other occupations. ... Australian employer or the state and territory governments, or you may be invited by the Australian Government to lodge a visa application. Note- the EOI is not a visa application. It is simply an online tool that is a sign of your interest to be considered by the Australian government for a skilled visa.
If you get selected then you will receive an invitation from Australian immigration department, after which you have 60 days to make a valid online visa application. If you exceed the time then your application will be rejected and you will have to wait for re-invitation.
The SkillSelect ensures that Australia’s skilled migration program is based on her economic needs. The Australian Government can now easily manage who can submit further application for immigration as skilled worker and who cannot. It also helps immigration department to control when and how many can apply and in what numbers. As a result, it significantly reduces the time taken to process a visa application.
Under this system, there are eight different categories or subclasses to determine the type of visa a person requires. It establishes the parameters on how long a visa holder can live and work in Australia and whether any family members of the applicant can be included in the application.
SkillSelect can also be used by the Australian government to concentrate on specific regions and their skilled labor shortages in these regions. With this tool, the Australian government can settle immigrant in different parts of regional Australia, thus opening new opportunities to be explored in other areas of Australia.
SkillSelect also notifies the applicants of changes in visa programs, expiry of EOI and other information related to EOI. It will also notify about the spots open in different parts of Australia. It will not increase or reduce the overall number of visas that are granted. It will only determine who is eligible to lodge a visa application and place them in a region where skilled workers are required.
