What You Should Consider When You Are Looking For An Estate Manager Or A Live In Couple

For a Estate Manager, it is expected that the estate manager at least has a bachelors degree or is a post graduate. He could have a Household Manager certification or a degree in Real Estate/Property Management. Who do you prefer? It all depends upon your needs and preference.

As the owner of a domestic employment agency I get calls from clients who are looking for either an estate manager or a couple. The client gives me the details of the requirements for the position.

I ask several questions because there are many aspects of the job to be considered. Sometimes an employer interviews a couple and is very impressed with one of them but less so with the other. He has a separate apartment or floor in the home for the couple to live in. Of course in such a situation it would not be advisable to have two people who are not related and cannot share a living space.

Another client may be more concerned with the candidates abilities and willing to accept a less than ideal living arrangement. I suggest compromises such as having one person live-in and the other come in daily.

Another consideration for ...
... the employer who is looking for a couple is whether they are willing to hire someone with a school aged child. In such a situation, the employer must decide if he will provide food as well as lodging at his expense and must make his decision known to the job candidates at the outset.

When hiring an estate manager, the employer must decide to what extent his employee is to be hands on or in a more managerial position, overseeing the workers. Should your estate manager know how to, for example, maintain the pool, care for the shrubs and flowers and know how to do minor repairs around the home, or do you simply want him to call in the right people for the job and supervise them?

It is important for the employer to decide what his needs are, what he wants, and what compromises he is willing to make for the right person or couple.

In conclusion, be clear about what the job entails and what your expectations are.
