In fact, the current winner scarfed down more than five times as many hot dogs as the person who first took home the prize in the inaugural 1916 contest.

In 1916 the winner ate just 13 hot dogs. The current record for the men’s division was set in 2012 by Joey Chestnut when he downed an astonishing 68 hot dogs for the win. The women’s record, set by Sonya Thomas, is 45 hot dogs.
