Rajasthan, the desert state is one of the prime tourist destination, not only in North India but the country as a whole. What makes Rajasthan a charming place is its rich art and culture which is very vibrant and the touches of which are visible in the lifestyle of the rural people, their costumes, music and dances. Though the biggest attractions of Rajasthan are its palaces that stand as the specimens of art, architecture and the imperialism of the royals, the culture of Rajasthan is something to explore. To get introduced to real Rajasthan you need to explore the bazaars in different parts of the state. Jodhpur, also known as the Blue City, is famous for diverse things but the bazaars or markets. Many of these bazaars are not very glamorous but are certainly highlight of Jodhpur tourism.

Rajasthani dresses, ethnic jewelries, lac bangles, memorabilia, wooden items and local delicacies are the most largely sold items the bazaars of Jodhpur. You may also check out traditional Rajasthani dresses that are available in the forms of bandhini and lahariya. Beautiful designs on cotton, silk and chiffon make the dresses really colorful and stylish. Every single piece of dress that you will find here is made of hand dyed fabric, which proves the artistic skills of the makers. To buy Rajasthan’s traditional embroidery saree, colorful ghagra cholis, coats and ethnic salwar kameez, you have to make a visit to the Kapra Bazaars. For a stylish pair of shoe for yourself or your spouse, take her to the Mochi Bazaar. Mochi is the Hindi word for cobbler and the market is well-stocked with traditional Rajasthani shoes with attractive designs. Very close to the Mochi Bazaar is the Jui Corner from where you can shop jutis of different varieties.

Other than these age-old traditional bazaars, there are some shopping zones in Jodhpur City where you will find these products in different other varieties. Tripolia Bazaar, Sarafa Bazaar, Sojati Gate, Sardarpura Market and the National Handloom are places that drag shopaholics with their attractive and colorful items. These markets are also ideal if you are looking for ethnic Rajasthani jewelries or antique items. For gastronomists too, there are some shopping areas in Jofhpur. Mirchi Bada is a very popular Rajasthani delicacy and the light snack is largely available in all bazaar areas in Jodhpur. Other than Jodhpur, bazaars selling traditional Rajasthani items are also among the major tourist places in Jaipur and other cities.
