According to a study in the Lethbridge Herald a few tenants are now being evicted as their rental house is a fire hazard. So they may be putting themselves in a bad situation,” by making a complaint.
Broadhead estimated he inspects at least one unregistered collection every two weeks. He says “The thing is, once they get captured is when they have a fire, as well as that’s when they’re truly in trouble,” he explained. “That’s the risk they’re taking by placing someone in there every month. In the long run, it’s easier to just change your suite, make it legal, make it safe. And then if there is a fireplace they’re not kept liable for this.”
