After 25 years in production, and across several different incarnations, the Dodge Caravan continues today as a brilliant and innovative car. Still the market leader, as it was on its introduction, the current Caravan is a popular and enduring model with many interesting features.

The new model - introduced for the 2008 model year - is a very stylish design, drawing on the chunky look that people like these days, and features a brand new engine in the form of the 4.0 liter V6, a motor that gives an impressive 250bhp. The familiar 3.3 liter and 3.8 liter engines are also available, but the smaller options have been discontinued.

At the same time as introducing the new Caravan, Dodge announced that the short wheelbase version would be discontinued; this means there is only one size of Caravan, yet it is incredibly impressive inside.

It is a worry, however, that the current economic crisis is driving the public away from these bigger vehicles towards smaller, more economical cars. The Dodge Caravan continues to sell well, but not as strongly as previous incarnations.

While the market is showing signs of a slow down, the makers are aware of the trends that come and go in the automobile world. The minivan, and the Dodge Caravan, has been with us now for quarter of a century, and it is entirely conceivable that it may remain, in some form, for another.
