If you are interested in starting a franchise business, there are few aspects of this venture that you should look at, as you establish your game plan. First of all, realize that starting a business - whether big or small - is a significantly serious undertaking that should be done only by the most strong-willed, tenacious leader types. If that is not you, perhaps you are not ready to do this.

If you are already running a successful business, there is no reason you cannot confidently take the bull by the horns and branch out. If that is you, then why is it you want to franchise? Is your customer base outgrowing your existing building, facility or location? Maybe you should think about simply rebuilding your current facility or relocating, before you decide to open a 2nd store (or multiple additional stores).

Perhaps you have realized that your primary demographic (consumers most likely to partake in your products or services) is spread into communities where you have not yet established a presence. And yet, the current location is doing well also. This makes you a prime candidate to consider franchising.

... you are just starting but want to start big, maybe your best bet would be to look into buying a location for an existing franchise. Many fast food restaurants and other chains allow local entrepreneurs to open up and own a store using their pre-established business model/branding, decor, and supplies. This could save you a lot of work and get you up and running and making money right away.

Depending upon which of these scenarios best reflects your current situation and your goals, your path may be slightly different from others wanting to start a franchise. Make sure you sit down and establish what you'd like to accomplish and how you're planning to get there. Then get your finances in order (or get a small business loan) and start taking steps. Don't give up! If you put your mind to something, you really can do it!
